European Art 20 Years after the Iron Curtain”; a project explored by the two-day conference “Democracy, Migration and Identity in Europe Today” (Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki, 27-28/02/2009), the one-day conference “Democracy in the Making” (2nd Biennale of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki, 19/09/2009), as well as in the artists’ workshops in Thessaloniki (State Museum of Contemporary Art, 30/10-01/11/2009), Athens (School of the Arts - Deree, American College of Greece, 6/11/2009) and Kavala (The Institute of Mohamed Ali, 2-3/12/2009). The exhibition will be hosted at the lower level exhibition space of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in which fragments of ancient ruins of the city are integrated.

The exhibition is co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus, ArtBOX.gr and the Atlantis project, in collaboration with the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (MMCA), and presents a selection of works that explore the political, social and philosophical stake of frontiers and borders through contemporary artistic practices. Through a collective installation, the curatorial team (Iara Boubnova, Lydia Chatziiakovou, Christos Savvidis, Thalea Stefanidou) attempts to make use of multiple levels of reception of the works, in order to showcase a tectonic reconciliatory synthesis, beyond restraints and exclusions.
